Get to Know Lagrimae

Lagrime was formed to continue the exploration begun with the 2024 album Scorrete lagrime mie of the vocal qualities of the trombone. From its inclusion in church music around 1500, to its role alongside voices in both sacred and secular
concertato repertoire of the seventeenth century, to the rich solo vocal repertoire with obbligato trombone in the eighteenth century, the instrument has perhaps had a closer association with the human voice than any other.

The ensemble further explores the vocal virtuosity of the Baroque trombone, its capacity to sing and to speak, and its interplay with the human voice – at times as an equal partner, at others in contrast in instrumental ritornelli, or in its
role as a continuo instrument accompanying the voice.

The ensemble was featured at the International Trombone Festival 2025. It has embarked on a coast-to-coast tour of Canada in the spring of 2026 and will appear in July as a finalist in the York Early Music International Young Artists
Competition. A second album is already planned for 2027, this time devoted to the music of Francesca Caccini.
